NOW THAT FAITH HAS COME | Pastor Damian Carruthers | June 22, 2025

This Sunday we pause to recognize Juneteenth, the day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation—enslaved people in Texas finally heard the news that they were free. Juneteenth is not just an historical milestone; it is a spiritual reminder that God’s work of liberation and justice continues today. In Galatians 3, Paul declares that in Christ there is no longer Jew or Greek, slave or free, male or female—for we are all one. Today’s worship brings these truths together: God calls us not just to tolerate one another, but to live in a radical unity that honors each person’s dignity and story. Juneteenth and Galatians 3 both proclaim the same good news—freedom is God’s idea, and all are equal in God’s family.
