We will be reading part of the story of the Walk to Emmaus. This familiar story involves two disciples walking to the village of Emmaus on the day of the resurrection. Along their journey, they are joined by Jesus but they do not recognize him. In their sharing, they state, “We had hoped he was the one who would redeem Israel” (Luke 24:19b–21a). This statement suggests their hope was placed in a specific outcome. What can we learn about hope from their experience?
